The number kept growing. Of course, one person with developmental
disabilities who has to wait for essential services is too many,
but when the number of people on Missouri's waiting list hit
5,000, we at the Arc of Missouri and our partners at the Missouri
Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities agreed that the waiting list must not get any bigger. In
fact, it has to end.
We launched Missouri Can't Wait to help
our children and sisters and cousins and neighbors,
Missourians going without vital supports
like personal assistance, specialized
medical equipment, supported employment, crisis intervention. And
more.
It can be different. They can thrive.
Grow up with their brothers and sisters.
Graduate from high school to a fulfilling life.
Work at a job they love.
Live in the community.

But many are suffering and some are in
crisis.
Together, we can change that picture. We
can lead the way not only in supporting our most vulnerable
citizens, but in empowering them.
