Below you will find a list of helpful resources.  Next to each title, you will find the organizations acronym (nickname) that is used throughout the state by advocates and people who work in the field of disability.

Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities (MPCDD)

A federally- funded, 23-member, consumer-driven council appointed by the Governor.  Its mandate under P.L. 106-402, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, is to assure that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of and have access to needed community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, and integration  in all aspects of community life.

Linking You to Information, Parent to Parent Support, Peer Support & Volunteer Opportunities, The Missouri Developmental Disability Resource Center (MODDRC) is one center that provides three levels of support. Whether you want to become more informed, get connected or find ways to volunteer, MODDRC offers a network of support options to get you started and support you throughout your journey.

Missouri Association of County Developmental Disability Services (MACDDS)

Senate Bill 40 is state legislation which allows for local control and financial support for a variety of community based programs and services for persons with developmental disabilities. Missouri Centers for Independent Living (CIL’s)

The Independent Living (IL) program provides services to people with disabilities to increase their independence and their opportunity to participate in day-to-day life within their communities. There are 22 Centers for Independent Living (CILs) statewide that offer independent living services. The CILs are funded through Vocational Rehabilitation grants and are managed by persons with disabilities who have been successful in establishing their own independent lifestyles.

Vocational Rehabilitation (Voc Rehab)

If you want to work but have a disability that keeps you from finding or keeping a job, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) may be able to help you. VR specializes in employment and training services that can assist you in becoming employed. A VR counselor will determine your eligibility for services. To be eligible, you need to have a physical or mental impairment that causes problems with working and need VR services to be successfully employed. Once eligible, you will work with a counselor who will help you develop a plan for your rehabilitation. We will give you vocational information and guidance allowing you to make informed choices about your vocational plan.

Rehabilitation Services for the Blind (RSB)

Provides services to people with varying degrees of visual impairment, ranging from those who cannot read regular print to those who are totally blind.
